TORONTO [PeterPaul.ca] — The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference union, representing some 340 locomotive operators for VIA Rail Canada, have set a strike deadline of 12 noon on Friday. With negotiations continuing, a federal mediator has been appointed to oversee the negotiations.
“VIA remains hopeful that an agreement will be reached before the set deadline,” the company said.
If an agreement is not reached by noon on Friday, “all VIA trains will be cancelled, until a settlement is reached.”
“Trains on the Sudbury-White River and Victoria-Courtenay routes will remain in service, as they are operated by third parties on VIA’s behalf.” Some VIA routes have already been cancelled, to view a full list of the cancelled routes visit www.viarail.ca.
