KINGSTON, Jamaica [PeterPaul.ca] — Jamaican media reported early Tuesday that reggae star Adidja “Vybz Kartel” Palmer had been charged for conspiring to murder a 27-year-old promoter earlier this year.
The Jamaica Observer quoted a police news release which said “The allegation is that on Monday, July 11, 2011, Palmer, along with other men, conspired to murder Barrington Burton o/c ‘Bossie’, a 27-year-old businessman/promoter of a Gregory Park address in St. Catherine. Burton was murdered while he was standing with friends along Walkers Avenue in Gregory Park.”
Palmer was taken into custody on Friday facing conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm charges.
Police searched several residences on Friday which Palmer was known to frequent including some of his hang-outs, BET reported. Some marijuana was found in one of the homes and three of Palmer’s associates were subsequently charged, police said.
During a search of a St. Andrews home the singer frequented, police discovered a corpse – which still remains unidentified.
The Jamaica Observer reported that Palmer spent his first day in jail assembling his legal team after being arrested in New Kingston, Jamaica, on Friday.
The singer is scheduled to appear at the Half-Way Tree Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday morning.
