PROVIDENCE STADIUM [Peter Paul Media] — The Guyana Amazon Warriors brought their 2026 Caribbean Premier League home campaign to a winning conclusion Friday night, defeating the Trinbago Knight Riders by six wickets.
The Warriors produced a disciplined performance with the ball before completing a controlled run chase, reaching 127 for four in 18.4 overs after Trinbago posted 126 for eight from their 20 overs.
The foundation for the victory was laid by Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the Player of the Match, whose outstanding spell of four wickets for 23 runs restricted the defending champions. Colin Munro top-scored for Trinbago with 26 from 16 deliveries, while the Knight Riders struggled to build the kind of total needed to put sustained pressure on the Warriors.
Guyana’s chase was measured rather than rushed. Shai Hope provided the stability at the top of the order, remaining unbeaten on 42 as the Warriors moved past the target with eight balls remaining.
The result was particularly significant for Trinbago, who entered the match as the defending champions. Their defeat brought their 2026 campaign to an end, while Guyana strengthened its position at the top end of the CPL standings.
A strong Providence finish
For the Guyanese supporters, the victory provided an appropriate ending to the Warriors’ run of home matches at Providence. The stadium once again carried the energy that has become associated with CPL cricket in Guyana, with supporters backing the home side throughout the contest.
Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo was also seen in attendance, taking in the CPL action while interacting with fans. The presence of senior public figures, corporate representatives and thousands of cricket fans young and old reflected the wider significance of the CPL to Guyana.
On the field, however, the Warriors remained focused on the immediate task. Their bowlers kept Trinbago to a modest total, and the batsmen followed with a composed chase to secure another important victory.
The final result—Guyana Amazon Warriors 127/4, Trinbago Knight Riders 126/8—gave the home crowd another reason to celebrate and sent the Warriors away from Providence with momentum as the tournament moves toward its decisive stages.
