No trace of missing Malaysia Airlines jet

[Peter Paul Media] — Search and rescue teams have been unable to locate any wreckage of Malaysia Airlines [MAS] Flight MH370, more than 24 hours after being first reported missing flying between Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, the airline said Sunday in a statement.

“More than 24 hours after the lost of contact with Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, the search and rescue teams are still unable to detect the whereabouts of the missing aircraft,” MAS said on its website. “The airline is doing its utmost to provide support to the affected family members, this includes immediate financial aid” and have also deployed 94 caregivers to provide emotional support to the victims’ families.

Family members gathered in Kuala Lumpur and Beijing Sunday, desperately awaiting word on the fate of their loved ones later meeting with MAS senior management on Saturday in both cities.

Flight MH370, operated using a Boeing 777-200ER jetliner, departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 12:41 a.m. local time on Saturday; It was scheduled to land in Beijing at 6:30 a.m. but air traffic controllers lost radio contact at 2:40 a.m. The flight was carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members including two Canadians identified as Xiaomo Bai, 37, and Muktesh Mukherjee, 42.

“Malaysia Airlines will set up a command center at Kota Bharu, Malaysia or Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam as soon as the location of the aircraft is established and the airline will make the necessary arrangements,” MAS said.

The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board [NTSB] confirmed in a statement that a team of investigators had departed the U.S. late Saturday en route to the region to assist authorities with the investigation. The team is being accompanied by technical advisers and representatives from Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration, the NTSB said.
